Meet Amy Westbrook

The Human Side of Wealth

I coined the term Phantom Freedom™ to describe a phenomenon I frequently observed: successful women who amassed considerable wealth yet felt trapped by the very resources that were supposed to liberate them. The numbers added up, but the life they envisioned remained elusive. My mission is to bridge this gap, guiding women to true financial independence by addressing the unseen barriers that hold them back.

The Short Version

Understanding Phantom Freedom™

I’m a wealth strategist who helps financially successful women in the second half of life close the gap between what they’ve built and how they’re actually living.

I coined the term Phantom Freedom to describe the hidden gap between building wealth and living from it — because I got tired of watching accomplished women arrive at the future they’d planned for and quietly wonder why it didn’t feel like freedom.

The Backstory

Amy's Journey Through Phantom Freedom

I’ve spent my career at the intersection of money and meaning.

Eighteen years in the neuroscience sector as an award-winning sales rep taught me how high-performing people build wealth — and how quietly disconnected they can become from why they’re building it. When I moved into wealth coaching as one of the original coaches on the Capital One Money Coaching team, I saw the same pattern from the other side: women who had done everything right financially and still didn’t feel free.

That’s when I started building The Capital Life — and eventually coined the term Phantom Freedom.

The women I work with have done everything right. They earned. They saved. They invested. They built businesses, portfolios, careers, and reputations. By every conventional measure, they’ve won.

And yet.

They still ask their advisor for another scenario. Still leave the trip on Pinterest. Still write large checks for their kids and grandkids without blinking, then feel guilty about a wellness retreat for themselves. Still keep a work commitment that drains them because walking away feels irresponsible.

I coined a term for it: Phantom Freedom.

It’s the gap between what a woman’s resources make possible and what she’s actually choosing to live.

It’s not a math problem. Her advisor already ran the numbers. It’s the residue of decades of doing everything right — the fortress-building habits that don’t automatically translate into fortress-inhabiting choices. Women were taught to shrink their way to wealth. Nobody taught them how to expand into it.

My work sits in that gap.

I help women get clear about what they actually want next, connect those desires to a plan, and turn the wealth they’ve built into greater choice, freedom, and possibility. Sometimes that means booking the trip. Sometimes it means saying no to the board seat that would eat a year of their life. Sometimes it means designing an encore chapter more meaningful than the first one. Sometimes it means all of the above.

I hold an MBA and am a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC). My approach is neuroscience-informed and money-fluent — I don’t replace your financial advisor, and I don’t need you to already have one. What I do is help you use the second half of your life on purpose.

Money is the vehicle. Life is the destination.

If any of that felt like it was written about you — you’re exactly who I built this for.
